Robert Hummer ’85 recently published his third book, Population Health in America (University of California Press, 2019). The book examines key reasons for the poor overall health status of the U.S., which include inequalities in both health status and access to health care by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status. Dr. Hummer’s book provides insights into what changes are needed in order for the U.S. to achieve a better health profile. Bob is the Howard W. Odum Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina, where he conducts research studies on the health of the American population and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in his areas of expertise. He and his wife live in Chapel Hill, N.C., and have two adult daughters.
